Slowing the shutter from 1/160 to 1/125 can have a dramatic effect as seen in the photo above. Panning allows for a blurred background to give the subject a sense of speed. Although this technique allows for only a small "keeper" percentage due to the challenge of keeping the subject centered during the pan. If you can keep the subject center the resulting image will be tack sharp as seen above.

Taken during Final Practice 2 on Friday during the British GP weekend at Silverstone. I figured it would be a good time to get my panning shots back in order and I will start a set of posts with the shutter speed decreasing to achieve the desired motion blur. Lewis Hamilton the driver in the photo, is the reining World Drivers Champion but has had a tough season this far.
